Villa Mara Carmel

Villa Mara is pure California luxury, and easily one of the nicest boutique hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Opened in 2022, it feels brand new yet already timeless, with design that’s both elegant and warm. The rooms? Incredible. Heated floors (yes, heated floors), a complimentary snack bar and fridge stocked with goodies, a sleek Dyson hairdryer, and even a fancy bidet — every detail has been thought through. Our patio looked out toward the ocean, and at night you could actually hear the waves. But the real star of the show is breakfast. The coffee is excellent, the quiches are light and flavorful, and the almond croissants… wow. Hands down the best croissants I’ve ever had. I would come back just for those. Service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff made us feel so welcome — kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. Add in the location (just steps from the beach), and this place checks every single box. If you’re looking for a Carmel getaway that blends luxury with charm, Villa Mara is it.

VM is quite simply the most exceptional property I have ever been to for leisure. The rooms, the cosy communal spaces, the design, the team, and the location—every detail is breathtaking. It’s hard to put into words how special this place is. It recently received a Michelin Key, and for good reason. The design of the hotel is incredibly thoughtful. Every corner feels whimsical, yet organic to its surroundings, and exemplifies quiet luxury. The aesthetic of the property—from the multiple firepits/places to the brilliant, manicured landscaping—gives their guests an elevated feel while making them feel right at home. The place is insanely pristine. Sheets, towels, and bathrooms are immaculate, bright, and crisp. The menu features the most delectable bites from a local bakery in town. They also have an all day menu that we ordered from multiple times during our stay. My favorite was the spinach quiche and the evening cake service (daily serving of a fresh cake for all guests to enjoy!) The team at VM consists of the most hospitable, well-versed and simply kind group of humans in the industry. They have a remarkable way with connecting with their guests that I have yet to experience at any other hotel. I felt so comfortable expressing any and all needs. They were prompt and insanely proactive (Huge!)—offering to make reservations and fulfilling any requests we had. They were deeply caring and attentive. The location is a stone’s throw away from Carmel Beach. Every step of my daily walk was idyllic. It’s a few steps away from a historic Frank Lloyd Wright home (I believe called the Clinton Walker House), which you should certainly stroll by if you get the chance. Every house you’ll walk past feels out of a fairytale novel. The hotel is nestled in a quiet and quaint neighborhood, but a mere 6-8 minute drive into the town where they have luxury and boutique shopping and dining alike—best of both worlds. Simply put, I’ll be back. In fact, I booked my next stay before I event left! Incredible experience!

Villa Mara is truly top quality in every sense. The design is beautiful and refined, the rooms are impeccably finished, and the entire experience feels thoughtful and elevated. The staff is absolutely outstanding, warm, professional and attentive. We met so many repeat guests which says everything about the level of excellence. Easily one of the best places we’ve stayed and we can’t wait to return.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Mara while we eloped, and it was truly the most magical experience. The property itself is absolutely stunning—peaceful, romantic, and the perfect setting to say our “I do’s.” From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations. A special shoutout to Rocque, who was beyond wonderful! She went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and cared for, and her kindness really made our stay unforgettable. Every interaction with her and the rest of the staff was warm and genuine—we felt so celebrated and supported during such a special time in our lives. We’ll always cherish our time at Villa Mara and can’t wait to come back for future anniversaries. Highly recommend this beautiful place and the incredible people who make it so special.

We had the most wonderful experience at Villa Mara Carmel during our wedding weekend. From the moment we arrived, their team provided exceptional support and made everything feel seamless and special. They graciously allowed us to store some of our wedding décor, which was incredibly helpful and took so much stress off our plates. The location is perfect - just a short, peaceful walk to Carmel Beach and with easy access to downtown Carmel, which made it so convenient for us and our guests. The space itself is spotless, beautifully maintained, and has such a warm, comfortable ambiance that truly feels like a retreat. We were also so touched by the many sweet treats they provided throughout our stay, such a thoughtful and generous touch that made the weekend feel even more celebratory. Villa Mara was the perfect home base for our wedding weekend, and we are so grateful for their hospitality. We can’t recommend it enough!

My boyfriend and I took a last minute trip to Carmel and had the best stay at this hotel! The location, staff, and hotel itself are all 11/10. There is nothing like waking up in your dream house, grabbing some coffee to go and walking Carmel point only to come back to a nice breakfast perfectly curated with all of Carmel local must haves like sweet Elaine’s and ad astra bread. If you are planning a trip to Carmel staying here is a must and if you are not, then I highly recommend planning a trip around this hotel!

Villa Mara is such a beautiful Hotel! We just spent three nights in the Lucia room. It’s located in a beautiful area, a block away from the Ocean. You can walk around, breathtaking views. Everyone in the Hotel was exceptional. Perfect service! Complementary breakfast was delicious - the pastries were beyond! The cake slices at night were such a delightful surprise! Probably the best cakes I’ve had. The room was beautiful and clean. Loved The LeLabo in the bathroom. Would recommend 10/10!! We will definitely return.

From the first touch point upon arrival to the last minute while leaving, the staff at Villa Mara were absolutely wonderful. They were warm, generous with their time and efforts and were the type of staff that remembered you by name as well as all of your preferences. They were particularly adept at navigating that delicate liminal space between warmth and professionalism, and their sincerity made us truly feel at home. The property itself is exquisitely detailed. It contains all the refinements a spoiled New Yorker expects with a dash of coastal ease and character. Every corner is thoughtfully curated, as is the experience from beginning to end. The location itself is tucked away enough to feel secluded but just blocks from beach access and a ten minutes drive from downtown. Can't say enough good things about George and Jonathan in particular, who made our stay spectacular. We'll be back.
